French referee François Letexier has been named the World's Best Male Referee of 2024 by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS). The award is given annually to the most successful official on both domestic and international stages over the preceding twelve month period.
In a press release, the IFFHS stated that François Letexier, 35, was appointed by UEFA to referee the EURO 2024 final between Spain and England (main photo), and some of the highest profile matches in the Champions League, including Liverpool against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund against Barcelona. It underlined that, in these high intensity matches, the Frenchman delivered "exceptional performances".
François Letexier is the first French male referee to receive this award since Michel Vautrot, who was crowned in 1988 and again in 1989. In the current rankings, the Breton referee is ahead of Slovenian Slavko Vincic, Italian Daniele Orsato and his compatriot Clément Turpin.
