In a similar vein to the 2022 World Cup, France will have two top referees officiating at Euro 2024 in Germany. François Letexier and Clément Turpin have been selected for the tournament by UEFA, who unveiled their final list on Tuesday April 23rd.

François Letexier will take part in the first European Championship of his career. The 35 year old Rennes native had already been chosen for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and received the news about his Euros selection on his birthday. This season he has taken charge of ten international matches, the European Super Cup final between Manchester City and Sevilla (1-1 FT, 5-4 pens), five Champions League matches, including the Real Madrid - Manchester City quarter-final (2-3), one Champions League qualifying round and three Europa League matches, including the quarter-final between Atalanta and Liverpool (0-1).

Clément Turpin will take part in his third consecutive Euros, following on from those of 2016 in France and also in 2021. Bourguignon, 41, also played a role in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. This season he has eight international matches under his belt, four in the Champions League, including the last 16 game between Arsenal and FC Porto (1-0), a qualifying round, a quarter-final of the Europa League between AC Milan and AS Roma (0-1), a Europa Conference League match, as well as a play-off qualifier for Euro 2024 between Ukraine and Iceland (2-1).

In addition to François Letexier and Clément Turpin, UEFA recognised the performance of French referees throughout this season. French referees have, in fact, officiated more than fifty games across the various continental competitions.

French referees selected

  • Head Referees: François Letexier (Brittany), Clément Turpin (Bourgogne Franche-Comté).
  • Assistants: Nicolas Danos (Occitanie), Cyril Mugnier (Auvergne Rhône-Alpes), Benjamin Pagès (Nouvelle-Aquitaine), Mehdi Rahmouni (Occitanie).
  • Video Assistants: Jérôme Brisard (Pays de la Loire), Willy Delajod (Auvergne Rhône-Alpes).

François Letexier: “This nomination for the Euros makes me proud and happy. Being selected for a major competition is a rare moment in a career. I already experienced this happiness last March after being selected for the Paris 2024 Games. Participating in two major tournaments is exceptional. I measure the progress made. I am savoring this moment, especially since there will be two French trios and two video assistants at the Euro. Now it's time to work to be as efficient as possible.”

Clément Turpin: “I am very satisfied with this appointment. I always appreciate the privilege of participating in an international competition. I am proud to remain at the highest level. This will be my third consecutive Euros. This consistency rewards the daily, tireless work done with my team, who support me. We will prepare as best we can to be as efficient as possible.”

Antony Gautier, director of refereeing: “I congratulate François Letexier, Clément Turpin and the other referees chosen as assistants and VAR for their well deserved selection at Euro 2024. This is fantastic news for French refereeing. This double appointment is recognition by UEFA of the quality of our referees. France is one of the rare countries to have several representatives at the European Championship. This owes nothing to luck. I see it as the result of in-depth hard work.”
